Nitish Kumar takes oath for 8th time as Chief Minister of Bihar

  • To team up with Tejashwi Yadav
  • Exercise in pre-empting the BJP
  • Nitish Kumar who resigned on Tuesday afternoon form the post of chief minister had sworn in again on Wednesday. With him Tejashwin Yadav also took oath of office and secrecy which was administered by Governor.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has ended his alliance with the BJP. He handed over his resignation to Governor Phagu Chauhan on Tuesday after dumpring the BJP for the second time. The meeting between Governor and CM lasted a few minutes. The JDU is expected to submit the letter of support from the RJD to Governor. Nitish Kumar said “I have broken alliance with BJP. I have resigned as chief minister of Bihar. That was the consensus of all JDU MLA and leaders.”

Nitish Kumar met Governor Phagu Chauhan who has given appointment to Nitish Kumar and RJD leader Tejashwini Yadav at 4 pm today. After days of dillydallying, Nitish Kumar has clinched the issue on Tuesday morning when he met MLAs from his party. 16 BJP ministers will have to quit the ministry and they will be replaced by RJD and Congress leaders.

Nitish Kumar went straight to the official residence of Babri Devi, former chief minister and wife of Lalu Prasad Yadav, where he is sheduled to meet Tejashwi Yadav. They are likely to have a meeting of RJD and JDU and then both Nitish kumar and Tejashwi Yadav will go to Raj Bhavan to give a letter of support and request the Governor to invite them to form the new government. All the developments are taking place in a day’s time.

There has been a secret battle of one-upmanship going on in Bihar with the BJP trying to play super boss with its majority in the Assembly. While Nitish Kumar’s JDU has only 45 members in the Assembly the BJP has 77 members. The RJD, the single largest party, has 80 members while the Congress has 19. There were reports suggesting that BJP leader Amit Shah has been trying to split the ruling JDU with the help of RCP Singh, former Union Minister, who quit the JDU recently after allegations of corruption were made against him by the chief minister himself. Fearing that the BJP leadership has been trying to make Maharashtra in Bihar by making RCP Singh a Shinde, Nitish Kumar has preempted Amit Shah. There have been misunderstandings between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
