IVI Launches Refraction Lecture series

India Vision Institute has kickstarted a unique and exciting ‘Refraction Lecture series – Going Back to Basics’.

The month-long series of eight lectures is specially tailored for young optometrists including students to become excellent refractionists.

IVI’s CEO Vinod Daniel said “the talks are timely and most necessary as uncorrected refractive error (URE) forms a big proportion of the vision care problem in Indian population. This lecture series will ensure more students and practitioners equip themselves with the fundamental skills required to provide quality primary eye care services. Seven percent of our school going children need glasses to enable them to study better and 55% of our adult population need glasses to be more productive as well as minimise accidents,” he added.

Participants will get to learn basic concepts to perform effective refraction, diagnosing common ocular conditions and key aspects or steps to consider while performing refraction in special cases – contact lenses, low vision, and binocular vision.

The series will serve to address the gap in coverage of refraction and basic concepts, which are essential pre-requisites for optometry students to begin their careers.

The facilitators for the lectures are Anuja C M (India Vision Institute), Saranya S B (Acchutha Institute of Optometry), Ramya Lakshmikanth (Sankara College of Optometry), Supriyo Chatterjee (The Neotia University), Prof. Monica Chaudhry (Learn Beyond Vision), Dr. Prema Chande (Lotus College of Optometry), and Sandeep Devan (JIPMER).
