Mumbai: The arrest of Arnab Goswami, CEO of Republic TV, took a political turn on Wednesday with BJP leaders at national and local level supporting journalist and Shiv Sena and NCP defended the MVA Government.
Turn out after Arrest
Arnab, who was arrested on Wednesday morning, was taken to Alibaugh and was produced in the court. The police department has appealed for their custody for enquiry but court rejected their appeal and sent him to judicial custody for 14 days till November 18th. He had medical tests before being moved for judicial custody and kept in a school which was prepared for Covid-19 treatment center for Alibaugh prisoners.

Bail petition
A petition was filed by Arnab’s lawyers in the High Court saying the arrest is ‘illegal’. He urged the court to quash the FIR lodged by Raigad police and release him from the police station.
The petition also stated that it is a witch-hunt and vendetta politics against the petitioner and his channel and he was arrested on a false, motivated and closed case. The petitioner and his son were physically assaulted and Arnab was dragged into van, petition quotes. The bail plea will be heard by a division bench of Justices S.S. Shinde and M.S. Karthik.
Anvay Naik’s Family Hopes For Justice
Anvay Naik’s wife and daughter thanked Maharashtra police for the action against Arnab Goswami. “Why there was no action against him until now since 2018? If my husband got the money from three people whose names were mentioned in suicide note, he and his mother would have been alive, said Anvay’s wife addressing media. She further said that she had gone through a lot of suffering since the case was filed with threatening calls and phones being tapped.
She has produced the suicide note of Anvay which shows that three persons Arnab, Shaik and Sarada owe him around Rs. 80 lakh, Rs. 4 crores and Rs. 55 lakhs and all three are unrelated and dues are regarding their individual dealing with interior designer.
But Arnab’s petition to the court shows that the company ARG Outlet Pvt. Ltd paid nearly 90% of the amount to Anvay which is due and in 2019 July, the balance amount was transferred to the bank account of the deceased, but as his account was inoperative, the amount was returned.
Hearing on the bail plea has been postponed to Friday at 3 pm. justice Shinde said that after hearing the case from both sides, he will issue an order
HRC Steps in
The MHRC stepped in after a petition was filed by advocate Aditya Mishra seeking urgent consideration of the matter. He felt that the arrest was illegal and indiscriminate. MHRC issued a notice to Raigad SP based on this petition. It said that the SP should be present at 11 am on Friday with all the records concerned with the case and Arnab’s arrest.
