Tyagaraja composed only three kritis in this effervescent raga. There is an interesting anectode related to Ananda Bhairavi raga and Tyagaraja.

Musicologists mention that Tyagaraja promised a group of Kuchipudi dancers who pleaded with him not to compose any more kritis in Ananabhairavi. Once Tyagaraja witnessed a dance ballet by a group of devout Kuchipudi dancers. They enacted ‘Madhura Nagarilo’ composed in Ananda Bhairavi raga. Tyagaraja was elated with the impressive performance of the artists and praised them for their musical prowess. The group were overjoyed to receive appreciation from the great musician. They requested him to grant a boon. ‘You are an immortal great musician who will be remembered for your divine music and compositions. When people read about you, they would also come across this event and you would also be remembered as a noble heart who gave away Ananda Bhairavi raga as a boon for an insignificant group of dancers. We would also remain immortal in the annals of history as beneficiaries…”

Tyagaraja’s ‘Ksheera Sagara Vihara’ is a popular Utsava Sampradaya Keertana.

Deekshitar composed kritis like ‘Kamalamba Samrakshatu’, ‘Tyagaraja Yoga Vaibhavam’, Manasa Guruguha, ‘Dandayudha Panim’, ‘Anandeshvarena’
