Ambulances from AP being stopped at Telangana border

  • Govt to allow if they have prior arrangement with hospitals
  • Dozens of Ambulances stranded at borders of Telangana
  • Patients need immediate medical attention
  • Patient dies because of delay at Pullur tollgate

Hyderabad: After Telangana Government allowed ambulances for two days from neighbouring state, Andhra Pradesh, suddenly announced  new rule for the entry which resulted dozens of Ambulances being stranded at the border. On Thursday, Telangana Government invoked the Provisions of Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 and Disaster Management Act, 2005 in support of its decision, which was communicated by Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar to neighbouring states late in the night of Thursday.

Now the new guidelines say that the concerned  hospital should inform control room of Telangana after getting or receiving request from patients. The Control room, after through inquiry will allow the patient to enter Telangana for hospitalization. As per CS version, if the patients don’t have prior appointment with a hospital, he or she will lose precious time in moving from one hospital to other and chances of spreading COVID is more in the mean time.

Procedure for prior appointment

CS Somesh Kumar released the format for prior appointment for patients coming from neighbouring states for hospitalisation. The details like name, age, attendant’s name, mobile number, type of bed required, and care should be filled in prescribed form. After filling the form, they should send details to the control room with phone number 040-24651119, WhatsApp to 9894438251 and e-mail to [email protected]. Then the control room will issue an authorisation letter for hospitalisation. It is for the benefit of people and neighbouring states should give wide publicity about this, said the chief secretary.

Dozens of Ambulances stopped near borders

These new rules resulted in dozens of ambulances getting stranded near AP-Telangana border. The number is more near Pullur Tollgate of Kurnool-Gadwal border with patients on oxygen support and waiting for clearance. Kurnool SP K. Faqeerappa made a call to Gadwal district SP and requested him to allow emergency patients into Telangana. The delay in process resulted in a death of a COVID patient on Friday morning. Patients are seen rushing in ambulances to Hyderabad from Kadapa and Kurnool districts. Telangana Government should take an initative to attend to the emergency cases and save lives. It is a pity to see ambulances sent back at Garikapadu Check post on Hyderabad-Vijayawada High way. Patients are on liquid oxygen support and waited for hours for the police clearance and later they were not allowed into Telangana State and were sent back to AP. Hope the Governments of both Telugu States will have negotiations on this as quickly as possible and resolve the issue.
