India has started dealing with the Taliban. An Indian envoy had met leaders of the Taliban, a terrorist group that had taken over Afghanistan and the last American soldier had left Kabul airport on Monday night. The meeting took place at Doha, the capital city of Qatar. The Taliban suggested a meeting with Indian Ambassador Deepak Mittal who met Mohammad Abbas Stanekzai, Head of Taliban’s Political Office in Qatar. The meeting took place at Indian Embassy.
While India expressed its concern that Afghanistan may be used by terrorists, Stanekzai assured the envoy that there need not be such a fear and all the issues will be addressed by the Taliban government in Kabul. “Discussions focused on safety, security, and early return of Indian nationals stranded in Afghanistan. The issue of Afghan nationals travelling to India also came up for discussion,” a press note said.
Indian foreign minister Jaishankar earlier told an all-party meeting in Delhi that India had adopted a ‘wait and see’ approach according to Harsh Vardhan Shringla, foreign secretary. He said India has been working with key partners in Afghanistan.
