- Aaj Tak, Zee News, News 24 and India TV asked to comply
- Sensationalisation of Sushant’s death
The News Broadcasting Standards Authority (NBSA) has directed electronic news channels, Aaj Tak, Zee News, News 24 and India TV, to comply with its order to air an apology for insensitive reporting and sensationalising the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
The suicide by Sushant, an actor hailing from Bihar, has been politicised and sensationalised by a section of media in view of Bihar Assembly elections. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of JDU and Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi of BJP made a number statements claiming credit to get the investigation transferred from Maharashtra to CBI. It was canvassed as a sort of ‘Bihari asmita,’ an issue related to the self respect of the people of Bihar. Kangana Ranaut, an actress of Bollywood, attacked Maharashtra chief minister and the police in this connection. It was perceived as a game being played by the BJP leadership to use the emotional issue in Bihar polls. She was provided with Z-plus security since she took on the government in Maharashtra.
Some of the newspapers and TV news channels have been making a lot of noise about regarding the case. The investigation into the suicide had led to drug racket and many other central institutions have entered the field. Rhea Chakraborty, an actress who was close to the deceased actor was haunted by the media for weeks until she was sent to jail. She has got a bail recently and came out of the jail. She has been a victim of overbearing and aggressive media.
The NBSA has asked the above stated channels to express regrets for the insensitive reporting which had hurt many people connected with the actor. But they are yet to comply with the order.
