Ambedkar is a beacon of lights for the underprivileged throughout the world, said Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao(KCR). After unveiling the 125 height statue of Ambedkar at Hussain Sagar in Hyderabad, KCR said he has named his new secretariat also after Ambedkar. It is not enough to perform Ambedkar jayanti year after year without following what he said, he remarked. Time has come to tread the path shown by Ambedkar to do away with inequalities in the society. KCR announced that his government would make arrangements to give Ambedkar awards every year on his birthday as suggested by dalit intellectual Kathi Padma Rao.
Speaking at a meeting on PV Marg at necklace road, Prakash Ambedkar, the chief guest of the function, said even after 75 years after achieving independence, the freedom envisaged by Ambedkar is yet to be realized. Following his ideals would be the best tribute to be paid to Baba Saheb, he said. Prakash Ambedkar said he was proud of the dalita bandhu scheme that is being implemented by KCR’s government in Telangana. I thank KCR on behalf of all the people for thinking of a scheme like this. Baba Saheb always believed in smaller states where it is easy to do away with economic and social inequalities. Potti Sriramulu has to lay down his life to achief separate Andhra state and a number of youth had to die to realize Telangana state, he remarked.
Koppula Eswar, president of the function and minister for SC welfare, said earlier that it would remain a proud day in the annals of Indian history as the highest statue of Ambedkar in India was unveiled by the chief minister. The work on the statue had begun when Kadiam Srihari was the minister for SC Welfare. It is completed during the tenure of Eswar. The work was overseen by R&B Minister Prashant Reddy.
Chief Secretary of Telangana government Shanta Kumari had invited the gathering. The meeting was attended by who is who of Hyderabad.
