- When will it introspect, questions Spokesperson Ragani Nayak
- Party faded in North East bastion
- Regional parties occupying congress base
New Delhi: After the results of five states were announced, it was congress party which expressed happiness though it fared very badly. Reason was TMC’s win in Bengal, DMK in TN, leaving its status in states like Kerala or Assam where it fared badly. Congress party spokesperson Ragini Nayak asked, ”If Congress becomes happy at BJP’s loss, when will the party introspect itself?” Party cadre in these five states celebrated as BJP lost in Bengal and Kerala. It is surprising in the background that the BJP was never in power in Kerala and in Bengal. But should thank BJP leaders for creating electrifying mood in rivals with hype as if party was about to come into power.
Clear Message for congress party
The results clearly indicate that voters are not looking towards Congress party as alternate to BJP or NDA. The priority of voters was Mamata, Stalin, Vijayan and Rangaswamy rather than Congress which ruled the country for many decades. It is confirmed that the congress party is routed out in many states like Odisha, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Bengal, UP, Bihar and so on. Look at Odisha, CM Naveen Patnaik of BJD who took over the seat by defeating congress which was once a strong force never looked back and became longest serving CM of the state, who won 5 times consecutively. Congress routed out completely in the state and for BJD, the main rival is BJP now.
Congress ceded space to regional parties
West Bengal’s fiery battle by TMC made Mamata to record her hat-trick win and congress party is not at all seen as a minimal force from day one of campaign. Now Mamata have emerged a formidable challenge to ruling party, BJP, at centre. In Andhra Pradesh, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy was successful in attracting congress cadre completely from grass root level towards YCP, the same with Akhilesh Yadav or Mayawathi in UP, Tejaswi Yadav and Nitish in Bihar. Even in Telangana. CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao was successful in breaking up the cadre of congress party.
Now the Congress party is only enjoying or sharing power in Maharashtra with Shiv Sena and NCP and with JMM in Jharkhand, but it should not forget that congress was once a powerful driving force in these states. In these states also, It joined hands with regional parties to prevent the BJP from coming to power, but not keeping the party’s future in view.
Options left for Congress
Congress is the only alternative National party for BJP in all states, says party’s Chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala. It may be true partially, but losing in Assam and Kerala proves that many parties thrived at the cost of congress and it is regional parties, which became reckoning forces in the states to defeat BJP. Now the regional parties are looking towards Mamata as an alternate to Modi in coming days. NCP Sharad Pawar sent message to Didi congratulating her for massive victory. This indication by the senior politician proves that Congress is not at all an alternate to BJP at national level. Now Congress may again to for an option just as it did in 1996. It supported I.K.Gujral and H.D.Deve Gowda as prime ministers by giving support from outside.
Future a question mark
Recent results of five states may push the party for the same option too in coming days by supporting Mamatha Banerjee in near future to counter Modi. If they can’t do even this, people will surely forget Congress and its future will remain as a question mark for ever.
