“It would not be possible to prove with sufficient repetition and a psychological understanding of the people concerned that a square is in fact a circle. There are mere words, and words can be moulded until they clothe ideas and disguise”, it is a quote of Joseph Goebbels, who worked as German Propaganda Minister in Hitler’s regime.
There is lot of demand for such Goebbels in Andhra Pradesh and all major parties are appointing such talented persons to convince the people of state in favour of their logic through news modules in different social media (SM) platforms. Thousands of news items being posted in WhatsApp groups, X, printerest, faceBook, Instagram, Linkedin, Redditm, Sharechat and Tumblr apart from YouTube.

At one estimate, Telugu Desam has been maintaining more than twenty websites and various social media groups to viral the affairs that were against YSRCP. Telugu Desam is ahead in making viral the news against Chief Minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy. Telugu Desam, which had the support of mainstream print and electronic media, is producing hundreds of news items through its media.
YSRCP relied more on the opinions of beneficiaries of ‘Navarathnalu’ and posting it in various websites and YouTube channels. Jana Sena and BJP had also its social media platforms and airing news in favour of their parties. Hundreds of personnel have been appointed by these political parties to produce the news as per their wish.
TDP had given franchise to a dozen agencies to make news stories in its favour. Impressive payments and salaries are being paid to the agencies and the employees working with them. Majority of the agencies had their offices mostly in Hyderabad and other cities like Vijayawada and Vizag. There is good demand and pay for the persons, who create stories against its rival parties. Making humour news concepts linking with the jokes in the films with real political matters were part among them. The vernacular dailies in Andhra Pradesh were divided on partylines. Goebbels once said, “Think of the Press as a great key board on which the government can play”.
Surprisingly, the party leaders, who used to express that their concerned parties will come to power in meetings, are getting excitement on one side and confusion another side with the news modules being produced by their respective Goebbels. The question is – Will our party win in the next election in AP?
This column writer received two phone calls from two different parties one day. One from K Venkateswara Rao, TD former MPTC of Kamavarapukota in Chintalapudi assembly segment called and asked this reporter- Will TD come to power in AP? When the columnist recalled about his previous statement on TD coming to the power, the leader replied, yes it is so, but we have our own doubts sometimes. A Vijay, follower of Nandigama MLA M Jaganmohan Rao asked the same question, will our party win in the next election? The news stories that are being produced by these parties are not only giving excitement but also instilling confusion.
Lastly, here is another quote from Goebbels, “Faith moves mountains, but only knowledge moves them to the right place”. (eom)
