Helping others is not a value by itself. A person on the spiritual path will be less selfish and with lesser number of desires. So he lives a simple life and can’t but help others with the extra he has.
For ordinary people the concept of god is far away. He needs an idol of his faith to keep him on the path of righteousness. Grandeur of the temple and the crowds who visit it strengthen his belief. Sankara said “Bhaja Govindam mudha mathe”.
Ignoring temples and religious traditions affects values of life.
