In view of “Karthika Somavaram” , thousands of devotees thronged to the Lord Shiva temples amidst vedic chants in the Godavari region. At the early dawn devotees have had ablutions in the sacred river Godavari as well as ponds and lakes in the region. The river banks in Godavari reverberated with the chants of “Shiva Shiva Sankara – Hara Hara Sankara”. As a part of the Kartika Somavaram special pooja , Rudrabhishkeam performed in Pancharama Kshetras like Draksharama Sri Bhimeswara Swamy and lord Kumara Rama Bhimeswara Swamy Temple , Samalkot, Pithapuram( Padagaya) Sri Kukkuteswara Swamy Temple, Kotipalli Sri Someswara Swamy, Sri Veera Venkata Satyanarayana Swamy , Annavaram, Sri Kukkuteswara Swamy Temple Pithapuram( Padagaya), Pithapuram at 3.30 am in the morning followed by the rituals and the Lord Shiva was beautifully decorated. The devotees take a dip at river Godavari.

This festival is one of the most auspicious times for people as they offer prayers to Lord Shiva. The devotees light up their lamp and leave it in the river seeking the Lord’s to bless them. Thousands of devotees thronged temples of lord Shiva on Monday. The devotees took a holy dip at various Shiva temples in Godavari region on River Godavari at Kakinada, Kotipalli, Samalkot, Muramalla, Draksharama, Antarvedi and Godavari River Ghats and others on the occasion. The devotees put lamps on the rivers and float them on the waters while offering prayers to the river gods. Pancharamams Famous temples like Draksharama Sri Bhimeswara Swamy and Lord Kumara Rama Bhimeswara Swamy Temple , Samalkot, Pithapuram( Padagaya) Sri Kukkuteswara Swamy Temple, Kotipalli Sri Someswara Swamy Temple and others were all filled with devotees arriving there to offer prayers on the auspicious occasion. Visitors in large numbers also lit lamps on the occasion. The temple authorities have made all arrangements of facilities to take darshan of the gods and goddesses to the devotees without any inconveniences. Devotees thronged in large numbers to offer prayers at Shiva and Vishnu temples. Godavari reverberated with the chants of ‘Siva Namam’. Vendors of coconuts and other puja material had a field day. RTC ran special buses to transport devotees to Pancharama Kshetras.
The Endowment department officials made elaborate arrangements in the Pancharama Kshetras for the convenient and easy darshan of Lord Shiva.
