Pondicherry: In a dramatic decision by centre, Lt Governor of Puducherry, Kiran Bedi was recalled by Rashtrapathi Bhavan on Tuesday. “The President has directed that Dr.Kiran Bedi shall cease to hold the office of the Lieutenant-Governor of Pudicherry and has appointed Dr.Tamilsai Soundararajan, Governor of Telangana, to discharge the functions of the Lieutenant-Governor of Puducherry, in addition to her own duties, with effect from date she assumes charge of her office, until regular arrangements for the office of Lieutenant-Governor of Puducherry are made” reads Press Note released by sources of Rashtrapathi Bhavan.
The tussle between CM Narayanaswamy and Kiran Bedi has been going on for months and it took a worse turn when they exchanged harsh messages on Twitter. Ruling alliance of Puducherry urged centre to recall Bedi and even on Febrauary 10th, CM submitted a memorandum to President Ram Nath Kovind requesting him to recall the first woman IPS officer, quoting that she was running “Tughlaq darbar”. CM Narayanasamy said that Governor is interfering in administration also.

Exactly a day before Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Puducherry, Centre has recalled Kiran Bedi. Puducherry Congress Government lost its majority with reduced number to 14 in the Assembly with an effective strength of 28. The uproar by opposition parties with a demand seeking resignation of Narayansamy claiming that his Government was in minority touched peak on Tuesday evening.
Meanwhile as per Delhi Sources, Kiran Bedi may be appointed as Lt. Governor for Delhi in coming days.
