- Sanchaita is Uma Gajapati Raju’s daugher, chairperson of MANSAS

Vizianagaram: It is the tradition for founder family members to watch the Sirimanothsavam together from Vizianagaram Fort every year, no matter what their differences are. Urmila Gajapati, daugher of Ananda Gajapati Raju, former MP, from second wife Sudha, said her mother and she were hesitant to attend this year but did not want to break the tradition. Upon reaching there they realised no other family member was present and its no longer a Vizianagaram Family event it once was. “The people who worked for my father for 20 years and watched me grow up for 16 years were forced to ask us to leave due to pressure from that person (Sanchaita). Trying to disrespect others reveals your own character. Is it not our right to attend as founder family members as I have been attending every year for the past 20 years?” asked Urmila.
‘Who allowed them here?’
Sanchaita has objected to their visit and demanded to know from MANSAS staff and the police as to who allowed the two women there. Sanchaita has been appointed chairperson of Simhachalam devastham after Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy became the chief minister of AP. She is the daughter of Uma Gajapati Raju. She studied at Delhi university. “I am very hapy to participate in Sri Paiditalli Ammavari Srirmaanu festival. I wish that the blessings of Goddess should be there for everyone,” she tweeted.
Anand, Uma divorced in 1991
There is a royal story behind Sanchaita’s objections. She is the daughter of Anand Gajapati Raju and his first wife Uma Gajapati Raju. Pusapati Ananda Gajapati Raju was the scion of Vijayanagaram Royal family. He was an MP. Anand and Uma got divorced in 1991. Uma later married Ramesh Varma and Sanchaita lived in Delhi with mother.
Jagan appoints Sanchaita chairperson
After Jagan Mohan Reddy took over the reins, he appointed Sanchaita as chairperson of MANSAS trust in place of Ashok Gajapati Raju, TDP leader, former Union Minister and former MP. Shocked by the development , Ashok Gajapati Raju had approached the court.
‘She came here in 2016 when Anand died’
Sudha married Anand Gajapati Raju on 22 January 1999 and Urmila was born on 30 November 1999. Urmila has been pursuing her post-graduation course in economics in London. ‘Sanchaita came to Vijayanagaram only in 2016 when my husband died and left immediately. The question of succession was legally settled in 1991 itself, ‘ said Sudha Gajapati.
Thanks to Jagan Mohan Reddy’s government, Sanchaita Gajapati Raju has been staying in Vijayanagaram and dominating the proceedings of the royal family.
