New Delhi: Newly appointed Punjab PCC chief Navjot Singh Sidhu and Chief Minister Amarinder Singh will meet for the first time after the appointment at the inaugural ceremony on Friday. Amarinder Singh has invited all the Congress MPs and MLAs for a cup of tea at Punjab Bhavan tomorrow. After the tea, they would together go to party office for the event.
Sidhu has written a letter to Amarinder Singh inviting him to the event. He said,’ I have no personal agenda, only pro-people agenda. Thus, as the eldest of our Punjab Congress family, I request you to please come and bless the new team of PCC.”
The chief minister had already met some of the new office bearers. He tweeted his programme and attached the pictures of his meetings with the new office bearers to the tweet. Sidhu was not part of the delegation that had met the chief minister. The captain was demanding a public apology by Sidhu for his tweets attacking the chief minister. Observers say that there has been some rapprochement between the two. The cricketer-turned-politician was appointed PCC president after prolonged infighting between the two factions led by Amarinder Singh and Sidhu. As the Assembly polls are fast approaching, the party high command was keen on finishing the task of appointing the new chief as well as bridging the gap between two warring factions.

While the veteran leaders have been opposing the elevation of Sidhu whom they dub as a “BJP reject,” the CM had given a conditional acceptance. However, the high command had ignored the conditions and objections of the chief minister and went ahead with the appointment of Sidhu in spite of Amarinder Singh’s reservations. It is seen in the party circles as snub to the good old chief minister.
Sidhu organized a show on Wednesday at Amritsar where about 60 Congress MLAs were present. Tomorrow, the inauguration of Navjot Singh Sidhu and four working presidents would take place at Punjab Congress Bhavan.
