Why Vote?

Rajendra Singh Baisthakur

People whose reasoning had been suppressed for a millennium, who have been addicted to hero worship have to be educated about the functioning of Democracy and the value of vote. Successive governments in independent India, till date, deliberately kept the voters ignorant in this regard for their own vote banks. Even among the educated voters how many are conscious of the fact that with their vote they are giving the elected power to spend lakhs of crores for public good. How many watch the way funds are used? Election is still a festival (ఓట్ల పండగ) to receive dog biscuits in the form of liquor and an insignificant amount of money for many voters.

Democracy offers equality of status and opportunity.
We are not born with equal talent. So economic equality is a mirage. Forced equality results in loss of initiative and consequently loss of prosperity in course of time.

At least now Indian writers in all languages should try to educate people about whom to elect and why.
